Families and community members gathered with the Ukrainian flag outside Middlesbrough Town Hall, many wearing traditional embroidered vyshyvanky.
Ukraine Independence Day at Middlesbrough Town Hall, August 2026, supported by IPC

Since the introduction of the Ukraine scheme in 2022, IPC has supported at-risk Ukrainians across North Yorkshire and Teesside. The project helps people settle into life in the UK and offers community support through the ongoing uncertainty of the invasion and the temporary visa scheme.

What we offer

  • Ukraine Helpdesk — employability, housing and administrative support, signposting, and individual advocacy where needed.
  • Informal English provision — English classes, plus weekly Conversation Clubs held in person and online.
  • Ukrainian children’s class — a Saturday school helping families preserve their Ukrainian heritage, especially important during the ongoing uncertainty.
  • Events and activities — a monthly programme of day trips, activities and traditional Ukrainian events supporting socialisation, community integration and connection.

Building a voice in the region

IPC also helped to establish the first North East England branch of the Association of Ukrainians in Great Britain (AUGB), supporting the community to develop its voice in the region.
